Website Project Timeline

Every web project is different, it is part of the dynamic beauty of the web, but typically a website development project will run as follows:

Stage 1: Initial meeting, project brief, proposal and costings

  1. Initial face to face meeting with the client - comfy seats and a cup of coffee always help
  2. Get a feel for your business and establish a project brief.
  3. Once we have had few days to digest this info, a cost estimate and proposal submitted to client
  4. The proposal is accepted, and our letter of engagement is returned, the job is factored into our busy schedule
  5. Bad news - I'm afraid you as the client also now has some work todo. The proposal document will generally double as a todo list for you and acts as a list of content required for the site production including text, images and graphics.

Stage 2: Design and Website Implementation

  1. Client supplies content as per proposal document, this should text for each page, photos, logos, drawings, stock items etc. in electronic format
  2. Initial website design templates are created for your review. These are the pretty pictures and establishes a overall look / feel for the project.
  3. Server and hosting plan set up and domain name registration if required
  4. CMS (Content Management Software) is installed on the server - this allows you to update the website content yourself. If a database needs to be configured, this is also done at this stage in the process.
  5. Once design is signed off, this template (typically a photoshop document) must be converted to XHTML and CSS for viewing on the web.
  6. This template is applied to the CMS software and we start creating the framework for your new website.
  7. Integration of content, custom programming where required and population of database.
  8. Final proof reading of complete site and sign off from you the client
  9. Web site goes live !
