Website Project Timeline
Every web project is different, it is part of the dynamic beauty of the web, but typically a website development project will run as follows:
Stage 1: Initial meeting, project brief, proposal and costings
- Initial face to face meeting with the client - comfy seats and a cup of coffee always help
- Get a feel for your business and establish a project brief.
- Once we have had few days to digest this info, a cost estimate and proposal submitted to client
- The proposal is accepted, and our letter of engagement is returned, the job is factored into our busy schedule
- Bad news - I'm afraid you as the client also now has some work todo. The proposal document will generally double as a todo list for you and acts as a list of content required for the site production including text, images and graphics.
Stage 2: Design and Website Implementation
- Client supplies content as per proposal document, this should text for each page, photos, logos, drawings, stock items etc. in electronic format
- Initial website design templates are created for your review. These are the pretty pictures and establishes a overall look / feel for the project.
- Server and hosting plan set up and domain name registration if required
- CMS (Content Management Software) is installed on the server - this allows you to update the website content yourself. If a database needs to be configured, this is also done at this stage in the process.
- Once design is signed off, this template (typically a photoshop document) must be converted to XHTML and CSS for viewing on the web.
- This template is applied to the CMS software and we start creating the framework for your new website.
- Integration of content, custom programming where required and population of database.
- Final proof reading of complete site and sign off from you the client
- Web site goes live !
