Theatre Royal Waterford
While the building was undergoing a complete reconstruction, the managment at Theatre Royal commissioned Emagine Media to redevloped the institution’s brand.
The re-branding of the Theatre Royal took place over a few months, starting from the foundation of a new logo and brand identity. The brief was to tie the long history of the Theatre in Waterford and a very old historic building into the new, creative flair that is reflective in the art collection and the shows being performed.
The primary icon is based on the landmark Georgian window panelling used on the building’s facade. The window icon is framed by a hand painted swish, reflecting the creative nature of the theatre and its productions.
This chosen typeface, Columna, is based on inscriptions found on Roman columns and is in keeping with the neoclassical style of the building’s architecture. The icon and font are carried throughout the entire suite of work, all the way to the internal signage and logos on the front doors, giving the theatre a consistent look and feel.
Emagine also created the season brochure, based on the in-house production of Wallace, Balfe and Mr. Bunne, by Bernard Farrell and directed by Ben Barnes. The show programmes, posters, advertisements, and all other print collateral reflect the same style and approach.
The website was commissioned and went live for October 1st, 2009. This site includes a comprehensive, show listing, with a tie-in to the online booking system. Tickets and gift certificates can now be purchased through the website.
Finally, original photography was created by Emagine, representing the internal and external splendor of the renewed 'People's Theatre'.
We are passionate about this project and are proud to have worked so closely as design partners with the theatre management, ensuring they have the right look for many years to come.
Free tours are available on the website for the 9th and 10th of October, 2009, and tickets can be bought online at: www.theatreroyal.ie
