Using immersive visualization, 3D CGI, and virtual reality to improve infrastructure planning, stakeholder engagement, and project understanding
Major infrastructure projects often face challenges communicating design intent, validating construction sequences, and helping stakeholders understand complex projects before delivery. Wexford County Council sought a more effective way to support planning, improve visualization, and communicate the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge project to engineers, stakeholders, and the public.
Emagine developed an immersive visualization platform combining 3D CGI construction modelling, virtual flythroughs, and virtual reality interaction to transform issued plans into a dynamic planning and communication tool. The objective was to support project understanding, improve stakeholder engagement, and add practical value during planning and construction.
The project combined detailed 3D modelling aligned with BIM drawings, construction sequence visualization, environmental modelling, and immersive VR exploration. Features such as staged construction review, rollback views, lighting simulation, and immersive navigation created a digital infrastructure model designed for both planning and public communication.
The project established a model for how immersive visualization can support infrastructure planning, improve stakeholder communication, and help major public projects present complex engineering in a clearer and more accessible way. It also demonstrated value across planning, exhibition, and public engagement settings.

Q: How can virtual reality support engineering and transport projects?
A: Virtual reality can support engineering and transport projects by improving design communication, supporting stakeholder engagement, enabling construction sequence review, and helping teams identify issues earlier through immersive project understanding.
Q: What are the benefits of 3D CGI and VR in public infrastructure projects?
A: 3D CGI and VR help public infrastructure projects improve planning communication, support public understanding, enhance stakeholder presentations, and create reusable digital assets for both project delivery and outreach.
